Twisty Read!I must say that I enjoyed every moment of this book。 The pacing was perfect。 The storyline held my attention until the very last page。Mr。 Methos did not play around in this installment! People, please add this to your TBR list! What a fantastic read!

What the hell? I usually like Methos but this book has little coherence and I felt like two stories were just patched together。 What clues led up to the murderer? NONE! What did the first half of the book relate to second half。 I found it bewildering

Solomon Shepard, still suffering mentally and physically from an attack in the courtroom when he was a prosecutor, seems to have withdrawn even further from society until Sheriff Billie Gray begs him to assist with her investigation into former Mayor Dennis Yang's death which looks like a suicide but which she suspects is murder。 They are joined by Mazie Heaton, a fairly new recruit to the Sheriff's Department。 It's surprising how many reviews and even the book blurb itself refer to the suicide/ Solomon Shepard, still suffering mentally and physically from an attack in the courtroom when he was a prosecutor, seems to have withdrawn even further from society until Sheriff Billie Gray begs him to assist with her investigation into former Mayor Dennis Yang's death which looks like a suicide but which she suspects is murder。 They are joined by Mazie Heaton, a fairly new recruit to the Sheriff's Department。 It's surprising how many reviews and even the book blurb itself refer to the suicide/murder of the District Attorney as the catalyst for this investigation but it was actually the death of the former Mayor that started it all。This is the 3rd book in this series and it was a pleasure to read as were the first two。 Along with the main story about the murders of the former Mayor and the District Attorney, there are side stories involving Billie's ex which was frightening on its own and Mazie's encounter with Joel, a young man with whom she accepts a date and then disappears。 I sure didn't see that ending coming but I didn't really like the way it ended。 As in the previous books there are some gruesome descriptions but the book itself was well written。 Although I didn't like it as well as the first two books, I'm definitely up for reading the 4th book if there is one。 3。5 Stars rounded down。My thanks to Thomas & Mercer via Netgalley for the opportunity to read a DRC of this book。 All opinions expressed are my own。Published: January 9, 2024 。。。more

Billie and Solomon are back together again。 Billie is being stalked by her ex, who seems to be able to do anything he wants with little consequence。 Solomon has grown to become a recluse, but when he is brought out to the public he easily convinces Billie to break just about every law that Billie has sworn to uphold as sheriff。 The “bad guy”, once revealed, left me less than impressed。 The story became a bit ridiculous。 Thanks to NetGalley for the read。

Great Addition to the Series!I enjoyed how Billy, even though she is the sheriff, she knew when she needed help。 Although Solomon Shepherd told her the last time he saw her that he did not want her to ever bother him again。, she took the chance and went and asked him for his help。 He is known to have been the best criminal prosecutor for very difficult cases。 She knew if anyone could help catch this guy, it would be him。 When he finally agreed to help, he realized that the murders were meant for Great Addition to the Series!I enjoyed how Billy, even though she is the sheriff, she knew when she needed help。 Although Solomon Shepherd told her the last time he saw her that he did not want her to ever bother him again。, she took the chance and went and asked him for his help。 He is known to have been the best criminal prosecutor for very difficult cases。 She knew if anyone could help catch this guy, it would be him。 When he finally agreed to help, he realized that the murders were meant for his attention。 There were too many things that pointed at him。 They were murdered like his mom was。 They deemed her depth of suicide, but he believed otherwise。 Don’t miss this book, there are a lot of interesting twists to it! 。。。more

The book started out slow for me but then the author kicked it up a notch and got into his writing groove。 This is a great series with 2 very interesting main characters。 I will anxiously await the next chapter in their lives。

This book was so much different than the first two in the series。 Twisty, surprising and tense。

So here’s the thing。 Methos could write a dissertation on how to peel a grape, and I would dive right in and devour the pages。 Seriously。 I love his style and his balls-to-the-wall approach to every story he tells。 With that said, this book can be summed up with one word: dark。 The characters, setting, plot, themes—all somber, oppressive and almost suffocating。 Whilst on one hand that feeling of hopelessness is a testament to Methos’ ability to create pervasive and believable tone and mood, on t So here’s the thing。 Methos could write a dissertation on how to peel a grape, and I would dive right in and devour the pages。 Seriously。 I love his style and his balls-to-the-wall approach to every story he tells。 With that said, this book can be summed up with one word: dark。 The characters, setting, plot, themes—all somber, oppressive and almost suffocating。 Whilst on one hand that feeling of hopelessness is a testament to Methos’ ability to create pervasive and believable tone and mood, on the other hand it was SUCH a downer as to at times be uncomfortable。 I had to take short breaks to recenter and remind myself that not all is lost in life, an experience I’ve never had before while reading。 I suppose having an existential crisis every fifty or so pages should be a credit to the genius of Methos, but my therapist is going to work for her fee this week—not quite the result I was hoping for when I opened the cover。I will continue to be first in line to grab anything and everything that Victor Methos pens, but for the love of all things holy, could we have something a LITTLE more upbeat next time? 😳 。。。more

This third installment of the series kept me reading until deep into the night。 It is a well-crafted police procedural that gives us a good story through the main characters, it is filled with a good amount of mystery, thrill, and surprise elements。 I will read the previous installments and look forward to the future ones。

Billie asks Sol to take a look at the evidence。 His mother died exactly the same way, many years ago。 Ooooh, shades of a serial killer? This book is the second one I've read in the last few days that I won in a Goodreads giveaway。 This one is much more my style。 I love characters like the ones here。 Billie - strong, dedicated, smart, capable, daughter of a sheriff。 Soloman - former social worker then prosecutor who was attacked in court and left with permanent nerve damage and partial paralysis in his leg。 He uses a cane and suffers from anxiety。 He inherited a 20,000 square foot house that looks like an old plantation where he sequesters himself like a hermit。 Golly, I was sure rooting for his character!I didn't know the killer in this one - always a plus。 This is book number 3 in this series but the author explained the characters so well that I didn't have any problem jumping in。 I had never heard of this author but I would certainly read more of his books。 A quick search of the library shows 2 other books by him so you know these are now on my list。 。。。more

Although I realized that this is the third book in a series after I began reading that certainly did not stop me from totally enjoying this thrilling book。 Billie Gray, a sheriff trying to live up to her father’s reputation, is tasked with investigating a suicide but suspects it was actually a murder。 She eventually asks her old coworker, Solomon, currently living like a hermit after being attacked, for his help。 I love the way their ideas bounce off each other and the way they work together。 Ma Although I realized that this is the third book in a series after I began reading that certainly did not stop me from totally enjoying this thrilling book。 Billie Gray, a sheriff trying to live up to her father’s reputation, is tasked with investigating a suicide but suspects it was actually a murder。 She eventually asks her old coworker, Solomon, currently living like a hermit after being attacked, for his help。 I love the way their ideas bounce off each other and the way they work together。 Maizie, a new hot headed detective also is working the case。Forewarning - there are definitely several gruesome passages which serve to ratchet up the tension。 I also found it interesting how both Billie and Solomon work outside the box to get the information they need。 The young IT hermit, an absolute genius, seemingly able to find any available information in a split second, was a very fascinating character。 In a future sequel I suspect he and Maizie may get together to become a very powerful team。Never having read anything by Victor Methos I found his writing to be extremely engaging, keeping me on the edge of my seat for hours。 His characters truly do seem to walk right off the pages and I felt as if I was in the same room with them watching them work together。 Powerful characterization, even though I did not have the background information on Billie and Solomon that was probably shared in the first two books, I was so very drawn to them。 I will definitely need to read the two prior books in this series and will definitely be watching for the next one。 Many many thanks to Victor Methos, Thomas & Mercer, and NetGalley for affording me the pleasurable opportunity to read an arc of this recently published book。 Four and a half stars。 。。。more

While this one primarily deals with Billie and Solomon, there is quite a bit about Billie's potential prodigy, Maize。 All of them seem at a cross roads of sorts and can relate to what each is going through。 It sucks that at the start Billie and Solomon are on the outs in a way, but once they start talking it's like nothing happened。 It was great for Solomon to help Billie as she's trying to get her ex to just leave her alone。 The court scene was a good one, one that showed what you see isn't alw While this one primarily deals with Billie and Solomon, there is quite a bit about Billie's potential prodigy, Maize。 All of them seem at a cross roads of sorts and can relate to what each is going through。 It sucks that at the start Billie and Solomon are on the outs in a way, but once they start talking it's like nothing happened。 It was great for Solomon to help Billie as she's trying to get her ex to just leave her alone。 The court scene was a good one, one that showed what you see isn't always what really happened。 And while things got cleared up in the end, not sure it happened in the best way。Maize was fun, you could see she looked up to Billie, but whoa man。。。did she have some very justified rage。 I was glad that Billie was able to stop her from seeing red at one point and that the two of them were able to talk about what it meant to be a woman in law enforcement and if that was really what they wanted。At the start of this one Solomon mostly seemed like the side kick, the one to help out the women, but that changed towards the end。 I feel for what we learned about him and his past, for how he had to face it all and the choice he will soon have to make。I sort of wished that at the end all 3 of these characters could have sat down to have a drink and chat about what happened, because while all 3 of them game through things, they are very much bruised and battered。 It will be interesting what happens next to them。 。。。more
